The Depot, as it is commonly called to denizens of the San Diego Underworld, is the largest of the Underworld transportation hubs, a gateway for the mammoth California Territory that connects with all sections of the territory as well as all other territories. Along with its placement as a significan stop on the sub-transit web, the San Diego Depot is also home to the infamous Corridor One which houses the elaborate Upperworld Elevator transporting travelers directly to the San Diego shuttleport on the surface. A grand spectacle of a place in many ways, the Depot is cavernous in it's construction, travelways and rail crossings intersecting in a delicate balance that could appear confusing and even frightening to a new visitor accustomed to the closed in comfort of most Underworld locales.
When standing in the central rotunda of the Depot, a wide array of rail lines line up parallel to each other creating a feel of great mechanical depth as the high speed transports sail in and out in a constant chorus of roars. Glancing up, one would glimpse similar movement of passing trains, though the inter-territorial transports that travel at a much faster rate arrive on the crossings that seem to be suspended weightless above the main floor. At the entrance wall where a colossal digital array paints a colorful collage of data on all rail lines passing through the hub, pockets of doorways like honeycombs offer the ability to cross beneath the rails for passage for the traveling populace to the appropriate service line.
Overlooking all like a great behemoth of a master, the San Diego travel office looms high and wide at the farthest wall, a structure dotted with darkened windows where an unusual fall of water cascades from the highest point near the vast ceiling flowing upon simulated rock to a basin just above the ground level. With such an elaborate use of water rarely seen in the Underworld territories, the crashing liquid that foamed with a roar much different than that of arriving and departing trains almost seems to speak of the importance of the building. It is within this highly secure structure that all travel in and out of the California Territory is governed, all movement in and out carefully observed by the highly visible presence of Enforcers, guardians of the Underworld law.
